Q&A - Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award and One Lovely Blog Award

As you can tell from the title, I have been nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award and the One Lovely Blog award.  Thank you to Erin @ The Hardcover Lover and Jennie @ A Bookworm Called Jenny for nominating me for the former and to Giselle @ Perks of Being A Reader for nominating me for the latter.

The rules for this award are:
1.  Thank the blogger who nominated you, and link back to her blog
2.  Post the award's logo on your blog
3.  Answer the 10 questions you've been asked by the blogger who nominated you
4.  Nominate 10 bloggers for the award
5.  Ask 10 new questions for the bloggers you nominated

Erin's Questions:

1.  Do you own an e-reader or a tablet to read digital books? If so, what one(s), and how do you like it/them?

No I don’t, but I do use iBooks on my Macbook occasionally.  It’s good for reading while I’m at school, but not good for when I’m reading at home as I usually read in bed.

2.  What is your favourite genre? Why?

Young Adult is the most broad of my favourite genres, because there is so much contained within it.  More specifically, I’d have to say fantasy because I read as a form of escapism, and fantasy allows me to leave my own world and be part of something exciting and different.

3.  Confession time! If you could step foot in the library that the Beast gives Belle (Beauty and the Beast), what would you do?

Look around, then run around, probably jump up and down… After that, I would look at the different books there and eventually pick one several to sit in front of the window with.  Then I would probably become distracted by the view.
(What an awesome question!)

4.  What do you think about love triangles in books?

I don’t hate them.  It all depends on how they’re handled.  I always use The Infernal Devices as an example of a love triangle that I loved.  Both options were completely viable as someone that could “win”.  There was no way to really, truly know who would end up together.  Ironically, an example of a love triangle I hated would be the one from The Mortal Instruments involving Clary, Jace and Simon.
5.  What is your favourite book to movie adaptation?

Is it cheating if I pick one that I have not read the book for?  In this case, I would pick The Outsiders.
Otherwise, I would have to pick Harry Potter just because I love the movies as well as the books and in my mind they are part of the same whole, which I have probably not explained very well.

6.  Are there any books that you wish you would have never read? What are they?

Not really.  I think it’s nice to read a mediocre book every once in a while so that when you read a good book, it makes the experience all the more special.

7.  Have you ever met any authors? If so, who? Feel free to include pictures if you're comfortable with that...

I have met Morris Gleitzman, who wrote the Once books (and many others) when I was a looooooot younger.  I'm sure I have a photo somewhere but I really have no idea where it would be.
And I have seen both Gayle Forman and Libba Bray give talks with a school club, but unfortunately I hadn’t read any of their books at the time so I didn’t enjoy the experience as well as I could (I really regret this), and I guess it doesn't count as meeting :P

8.  Do you have any autographed books? What ones?

When I met Morris Gleitzman he signed one of his Toad books.

9.  Do you carry a book with you everywhere you go?

About 80% of the time I bring a book.  The only time I don’t is if I know for certain that I am not going to have a chance to read.

10.  If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Nope.  Nope, nope, nope.  I can't possibly pick.

Jennie's Questions:

1.  What is a genre you rarely read by wish you did?

Classics.  Just to understand references people make all the time.

2.  Do you prefer to read lots of books at once or just one at a time?

I usually read one book at once.  If it’s during holidays, I’ll have one book for reading during the day and one book for reading before bed.

3.  Hardback, Paperback or Ebooks?

I own mostly paperbacks.  I like reading hardcover books, because they feel fancier, but they’re not practical for buying or carrying around.  Ebooks are irritating to me and don’t feel real - mostly because it reminds me of my fanfic reading days.

4.  If you could be one character in a novel for a day, who would you be?

I hate being unoriginal, but Hermione from Harry Potter.  Her worries aren't too intense that I couldn't handle it (there is no way I could deal with being Tris, for example!), and her world is epic.

5.  What do you like eating when you read?

I used to eat apples, but I kept getting water droplets on the page.  For a while, I'd also read whilst having my breakfast.  Now I don't eat whilst reading if I can help it.

6.  When you read, do you do it in silence or listen to music and if so what songs are on your playlist?

In silence.  I stopped listening to music a couple years ago - when Super Bass by Nicki Minaj started playing during a horrific death scene.

7.  What was your first blog post/book review?

On this blog it was a review of Asunder by Jodi Meadows.

8.  Where is your favourite place to read?

On a comfy chair in the living room or in my bed.  I've also recently been reading in a chair outside on the deck, since the sun has been showing itself a little more.

9.  What's your opinion on love triangles? and 10.  Do you have any autographed books?
See above! :)

The rules for this award are:
1.  You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
2.  You must list the rules and display the award.
3.  You must add 7 facts about yourself.
4.  You must nominate 15 other bloggers and comment on one of their posts to let them know they have been nominated.
5.  You must display the award logo and follow the blogger who nominated you.

So here are my 7 facts (sorry if they're boring - I'm not very interesting).

1.  I have 4 tumblr blogs.  I used to have 5.  I have a problem with needing the pictures I reblog separated.

2.  I'm likely to order a salad if I go out for dinner.  Not because I'm dieting, but because I genuinely love salad, and always have.  Is that weird?
I'm already struggling and I've only got two facts, uh oh.

3.  I'm horrific at commenting on posts that I like.  I never feel like my comment is long enough to warrant posting.

4.  I enjoy rollerskating, even though I don't do it that often.

5.  I once got a butterfly chrysalis as a birthday present.  Once the butterfly "hatched", I had to let it go.  It was a pretty cool experience.

6.  I'm not a massive make-up wearer, but I still watch numerous tutorials on Youtube.  I have a knack for wasting precious time.

7.  My big toe toenails could be used as weapons.  I swear they are stronger than steel.

Thanks again for everyone who tagged me!

I'm breaking the rules a little, but here's who I'm nominating (please don't feel obligated to do both or either of these, and sorry if you've already done them):
And these are my questions:
1.  Do/would you read on public transport?
2.  Is there a food that a book has made you want to try?
3.  What made you get into reading?
4.  Do you have any merchandise relating to books?
4b.  Do you want to share pictures of said merchandise?
5.  Is there a character you love to hate?
6.  Would you rather participate in The Hunger Games or be put under the Cruciatus curse for 5 minutes?
7.  If you had to be a fairytale character for a day, who would you be?
8.  Do you like deckled edges on books?
9.  What are your thoughts on fanart?  Have you ever created any?
10.  Would you rather live in the world of Harry Potter (and be a witch or wizard, of course), or live in Middle Earth?

Sorry it's taken me so long to post - I'm swamped with revision for school (I have less than 3 days of classes left... ever).  I realise I've been a horrible blogger lately, but hopefully that will change soon.

  1. Thanks for nominating me for both awards! I've already been nominated but I will answer your questions as well because I haven't even started my draft for the posts. I was going to do it later today.

Fantasy is my fav genre as well and I'm sorry you had to read a terrible death scene while listening to Super Bass, that's bound to be awkard... I do listen to music while reading but I have a specific playlist which is only instrumental music and it helps hahaha. You have 4 tumblr? OH God... the stress... I can't even have one hahahaha and I also spent way too much time watching Youtube tutorials even when I don't wear make-up on a regular basis, but oh well, at least I'm entertained, right?

    1. You're welcome :) Oh cool - that would be great!

Haha yes it was awkward. I can see how instrumental music would be good for reading. The stress of the tumblr blogs stopped getting to me when I accepted I was only doing it for my own enjoyment, not to make other people happy. You are definitely right about that!

  2. Thanks for the nominations! I'll link back to you with my responses. :)

The answer for the second number 6 question is definitely understandable! If I listen to music when reading which is a big if, it would most likely be a movie score.
