My Most Watched Childhood Movies

As you probably know, (or guessed - I don't know how long you've been around here), I mostly talk about books on this blog.  In real life though, I get easily attached to basically any fictional thing.  Aside from reading books, I also love watching TV and movies.  I've got a Letterboxd account and a Trakt account (basically Goodreads for movies and TV shows, respectively).  I recently watched Christine's video, Movies I Grew Up On, and was inspired to write this post.

This is going to be a list of movies that I watched over and over and over as a kid.  They're not necessarily my favourite movies from the time, but they hold a lot of memories and I find myself watching them occasionally even now.  I hope this isn't too boring for you, but I'm hoping there will be some of you that have movies like this for yourselves - maybe we'll even share some!

Because this post is about movies, clicking on the pictures will lead you to their IMDB pages, as opposed to the usual of Goodreads.

1.  Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams
My sister and I love Spy Kids.  Well, I should clarify - we like the first two movies.  And while we liked the first one, we have the second one on DVD and we've watched it over and over.  I'm pretty sure I can quote the entire movie.

2.  The AristoCats
"Everybody Wants To Be A Cat" was my jam as a kid.  Unlike with Spy Kids, my brother actually liked this movie too.  We'd all always watch it in the car on the way to my Papa's farm.

3.  Lilo and Stitch
This movie is still one of my favourites to this day.  I love the relationship between the sisters and how this extraordinary circumstance brings them closer together.

4.  Cinderella 2, The Emperor's New Groove and The Sword in the Stone
These movies all go together because they were on the same video tape (TV recording in the old days!), and, in that order, we would watch movie after movie after movie.  It was one video we could all agree on watching.

5.  The Christmas Toy, Wiggly Wiggly Christmas and Muppet Family Christmas
Like the previous movies, these were all on the same tape.  Every year at Christmas we watch these movies on our video player - it's become a tradition.  Unfortunately, this year we might have to break the tradition because our video player has finally died.  Wiggly Wiggly Christmas has an IMDB page, but no photo.  Also, I have no idea how we ended up getting attached to The Christmas Toy because the toys look so scary.

6.  The Grinch
Another video that we make a point of watching every year at Christmas time.  I'm sure you've probably seen this one.

7.  Peter Pan
This isn't the Disney version that I'm talking about.  I have no idea where we got it*, but it's a weird cartoon version of Peter Pan.  After a lot of searching and figuring out what year the movie was from (1988, in case you were wondering), I managed to find evidence of the movie's existence online!  The music from it is one of my favourite things in the world to hear.  Here's a link to the main theme on YouTube.

*Actually after mentioning this post to my mum, she says that she thinks we got it as a hand-me-down from her aunty.

8.  Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2
It was always a pain when we wanted to watch these movies, because we'd have to fast forward through the whole Tigger Movie.  Another thing - I went to see the third movie at the cinemas and I did not like it and I refuse to watch the fourth movie.

9.  The Land Before Time 1 and The Land Before Time 2: The Great Valley Adventure
These cute little dinosaurs had a big place in our hearts.  Plus, all the scenery is gorgeous.

10.  Rugrats in Paris
Well, I'm sure everyone has at least heard of the Rugrats TV show, but this movie was just as good.  Plus it has some pretty heart wrenching scenes.

11.  The Lion King and The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride
Everyone knows The Lion King and how good it is.  So really, there's nothing else to say here!

So that's all the movies!  I'm sure I'll think of another one in the next few days and kick myself for not including it in this list.

Have you seen any of these?  Do you have other movies that you watched over and over when you were a kid?

  1. OMG THE LAND BEFORE TIME. I might cry. I loved those movies; I watched them daily there were so so so great! The Lion King is my favourite Disney movie of all times *___* and I have to say I was also obsessed over Spy Kids and loved the scene at the end of the second movie where the girl (can't remember her name though) used the belt to sing hahaha
I've seen most of the movie you mentioned minus The Muppets I believe but there are a few, like Cinderella 2 which plot I cannot remember for the life of me. I do remember though being absolutely terrified of the villain in The Sword in the Stone

    1. They were perfect!
Hahaha yes I know the scene you are referring to. So funny :')
Well considering these are children's movies, I don't blame you for forgetting what happened! I also don't blame you for being scared of that villain - she was very creepy.

  2. LILO & STITCH! Gosh! That was my favorite movie when I was 8! I was obsessed with it! I even wanted my room to be Lilo & Stitch themed. Sadly, when I got into middle school, I thought I was 'too old' and got rid of all my kid stuff, including the movie. Stupid younger me. I'll get my hands on a copy of that movie again someday.

  3. Ahhh so many memories <333 What I wouldn't give to be five years old again...

Peter Pan is one of my favorite stories ever. Like, any adaptation of it, any quote, any reference always makes me really sad and really happy at the same time.
And omg The Land Before Time!! It's been so incredibly long since I've watched those, but now that you mention it I'm probably just going to set aside time just so I can rewatch that, because I remember loving those movies. (the illustrations are so cute too!)

Nani is one of the best Disney characters ever in my opinion for precisely that reason :) :)
That's the same with me for Toy Story and the Lion King! I'm glad we have so many movies in common!
