Top 10 New-To-Me Authors of 2014

Today's Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) is new-to-me authors of 2014.  I have to say that I don't really have too many, and even some of the ones I'm going to list, I have only read one book from (but I just know they're great).  So, here are my Top 5 favourite, new-to-me authors of this year.

1.  Laini Taylor

Have I talked about these books enough this year?  Laini Taylor's writing grabbed me and never let go.  I know she is definitely a new favourite author (and one I regret not reading sooner).

2.  Holly Black

I read The Spiderwick Chronicles this year and adored them.  The dark atmosphere created by Holly Black has me interested in trying out one all of her young adult novels.

3.  Leigh Bardugo

This was a book that I knew I was going to love from the first page.  The reason I haven't continued with the series:  I'm waiting until next year so I have a good enough excuse to reread this one.

4.  Rosamund Hodge

I absolutely fell in love with this book when I read it last month.  I am seriously anticipating Crimson Bound so much I can't even deal with it.  I have to get my hands on Gilded Ashes soon.

5.  A. S. King

Another author I read just last month.  I've been wanting to get around to A. S. King for a while, since one of my favourite booktubers (Ariel Bisset) is a huge fan.  I wasn't expecting to love Please Ignore Vera Dietz as much as I did, and now I am thoroughly excited to read more of her work.

I know my list is short this week, but I didn't want to add authors to the post just to make up numbers.  I'll see you soon with another post!

  1. The only author it was new to me this 2104 was Holly Black. I read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown and really enjoyed it! I've also read Shadow and Bone this year but I discovered her in 2013, so I technically couldn't featured her in the list =(
And you just reminded me that I have to read The Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy and Cruel Beauty. I've seen a lot of people raving about A. S. King but I've never felt the urge to pick one of her books

    1. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed The Coldest Girl in Coldtown - maybe I'll get to that soon :)
That's unlucky :o I almost cheated and included Rainbow Rowell, even though I discovered her last year.
Those books are amazing, in my opinion.
Well I would highly recommend Please Ignore Vera Dietz if you don't mind gritty topics.

  2. LAINI TAYOR YES YES YES. Besides The Book Thief her book are my absolute favorites of this year (of life even). The way her words tangle is just out of this world. I want more. At least I still have the Lips Touch book and her story in My True Love Gave To Me. They're precious and I'll be devastated when they're gone. Gorgeous books.

I really liked The Grisha trilogy. My favorite was the second one. I hope you like the other two books in the series(and your reread of course).
I didn't enyoy The Coldest Girl In Coldown all that much, but I'm excited to try out any other of Holly Black's works.
And A.S. King I need you in my life. I promise to read a book of his soon.

    1. Someone who shares my passion for Laini Taylor! :P I have yet to read The Book Thief, but I'm going to get there soon, I swear! I haven't read those two yet either, but I'm currently reading My True Love Gave To Me, so that one is coming soon. That's exactly how I felt when I read Night of Cake and Puppets - I didn't want to read it because then it would be over!

I'm glad you enjoyed the Grisha trilogy - I've heard very mixed things about the next two books, so I'm really hoping I like them.

I've also heard mixed things about The Coldest Girl in Coldtown (mostly because of instalove, I think?), so I'll keep that in mind when I read it. Even though the Spiderwick Chronicles are for a younger audience, I would still recommend them! They're super quick reads too - maybe you could check those out? :)
I'm happy you want to read some A. S. King!

  4. Laini Taylor is fantastic! I still haven't read the final book in her series yet partially because I don't want it to end!
You should definitely check out Holly Black's The Curse Workers which is a YA series.

    1. Yes she is! Haha I can completely understand that decision. I put off reading Dreams of Gods and Monsters, but I gave in after reading only 2 other books in between :P
Ooooh okay, I've heard some good things about that series.

  5. The only author on this list I haven't read anything of is A.S. King, but I am really tempted to add some books onto my TBR list! I agree with you on all of the other authors, they are really great :)

  7. Terrific list, Sabrina :D It's probably not a good thing that I've heard of all these authors and their books are supposedly on my high-priority list, yet I've made no move to read them in about 6 months... xD Reader problems.
I totally understand what you mean about not wanting to just add authors, I read more than 10 new authors this year but I didn't want to just put them on the list for the sake of having ten, I wanted to showcase the ones that really impressed me~
Are those the UK covers of Laini Taylor's books? They're gorgeous <3

    1. Thank you Connie!
I can definitely relate to that - I've been meaning to read Cinder for over a year now...oops.
Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking! I've read more than 10 as well, and some of them could have made the list because I enjoyed their books, but they just didn't impress me as much as these authors.
Yes they are the UK covers! I agree, they are gorgeous and I'm kind of in love with them, and they're shimmery in real life too! :D

  8. I haven't really read any of those authors. I read Taylor's short story in My True Love Gave to Me, but I don't really think that's enough for me to know her writing style. I should read some of her other stuff soon. lol

    1. Oh that's too bad. I'm yet to read that short story - I'm hoping I'll enjoy it as much as her other work. I hope you do decide to read some of her other writing eventually, it's worth it.
