The Christmas Gift Guide Tag + The Christmas Carol Tag

I have two tags today, so beware, it's going to be a long post!  I'm finally getting into the Christmas spirit, and what better way to celebrate?

Thank you to Jennie over at A Bookworm Called Jennie for tagging me in this one!

The tag was created by Crazy For YA and these are the guidelines:
1)  Pick at least one book/series for each category
2)  Spread some holiday cheer by tagging at least 3 bloggers
3)  Add your link to the original post

Here are the books I would give to the people in the following categories:

The YA Contemporary Lover

The Fantasy Lover

The Romance Lover

The Music Lover

The Sci-Fi Lover

The Mystery/Thriller Lover

The Christmas Lover

Everyone

I think The Giver has something in it for everyone and it's not too difficult to read or too long, so even non-reader friends or family would be willing to give it a go.
I also haven't yet finished My True Love Gave to Me, but honestly, I haven't read a purely Christmas book before this!

Thank you to Connie @The YA Book Thief for tagging me to do The Christmas Carol Tag :)
Here are my responses!

1.  "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" - Name a villainous character you can't help but love to hate.

Voldemort.  I'm sorry.  I know, this answer is so typical.  But there's really no one that I love to hate, apart from Voldemort and I suppose Bellatrix.  There are characters that appear the be villainous that I love, but they are not truly evil like these two.

2.  "All I Want for Christmas Is You" - What book do you most want to find under your Christmas tree this year?

This is one that I am expecting.  I picked it out earlier in the year and saw my mum buy it, and she said I'd have to wait until Christmas for it.  I decided that was okay, and now I'm really hoping she hasn't forgotten about it!
Other than this, I'm hoping/expecting either A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray or The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon.  I know my sister got one of these two for me.

3.  "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" - Name your favourite character that had to overcome a major obstacle. Why are they your favourite?

Will Herondale is always my favourite.  He had one specific major obstacle that broke my heart, but you don't find out what it is until Clockwork Prince...

4.  "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" - Which character do you think is at the top of Santa's "Nice" List and which is at the top of his "Naughty" List?

I don't think anyone can deny that Jem Carstairs is practically an angel.  He's an adorably nice character who is always looking out for others, and tries to see the best in everyone.  Arobynn Hamel, however, makes my blood boil.

5.  "Frosty the Snowman" - What book just melts your heart?

Does this need an explanation?

6.  "Feliz Navidad" - Your favourite book that takes place in a country other than your own?

So... pretty much any of my favourite books.  I'm going to go with Divergent, because I feel like I don't talk about it enough in relation to how much I love it.  By the way, have any of you seen the full trailer for Insurgent?  Thoughts?

(Psst, mine aren't too good.)

7.  "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" - What book do you read to get you into the Christmas spirit?

I don't usually read a specific book to get me into the Christmas spirit, but I have got Dash and Lily's Book of Dares on hold from the library.  It's Christmas-y, right?

8.  "Sleigh Ride" - What character would you most want to spend the holiday with?

Can I say all of them?  I have so many characters that I would love to spend any day with, never mind Christmas.  I'm going to go with Dorian from Throne of Glass because I've been feeling bad for him lately.

9.  "Baby It's Cold Outside" - Which book do you hate so much you'd sacrifice it to the fire to stay warm?

                                          I can't do that!

10.  "Do You Hear What I Hear?" - What book would you recommend to everyone?

Apart from The Giver, which I mentioned in the last tag above, I would choose A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.  It's a story that everyone can relate to in some way, I'm sure.

Now I suppose it is time to tag people!  Feel free to do both tags, either or none! :)

  1. I thought the Insurgent trailer was so bad! It looks so incredibly fake and all over the place. I'm sure the movie would turn out okay but I'm scared to be disappointed :/
I love to hate Bellatrix because she just wants chaos and she's mad as a hatter and I simply hate Voldemort. A Monster Calls is so incredible! I'm so happy I read it this year ;)

    1. I completely agree! I hope the movie does turn out okay... especially since I was pretty happy with the Divergent movie.
Haha that's very true about Bellatrix.
I'm so happy you read it this year too :P

    2. I'm also pretty worried about the movie, I loved Divergent but Insurgent looks so different and I'm not sure about it yet *fingers crossed*

    3. I feel the same as you, Anna!

  2. Awesome answers, Sabrina! (: I agree, The Giver is definitely an accessible read to those who don't typically read for fun~ Have you watched the movie? I have pretty mixed thoughts about it, haha.
I can't believe I did think of Jem for the nice list question, he's perfect <3 and I haven't read A Monster Calls yet, but I really should.
The Insurgent trailer... ahhh... I was pretty confused, and I'm not sure if that's because the trailer was cut poorly or because I just haven't read the book in a while xD but I wasn't too pleased with the way it was edited, all the shots are like only 1 second and nobody, least of all people who haven't read the book, gets what's happening. What did you think?

    1. Thanks :) I have watched The Giver movie - I had mixed thoughts too, even though my mum and brother really liked it. I think it just conflicted with my perceptions/views whilst reading the book. But overall, I think it could have been a lot worse.
Haha Jem is perfect :D You should! It'll take you a really short time, but you get a lot out of it!
Yeah, I agree. My initial thoughts were "What the heck?" because of that stupid box. I don't know what it is. My sister hasn't read the book, and you're right, she had no idea what was happening. I'm just disappointed because I liked the Divergent movie, and I don't want this one to let me down.

  3. Some great answers Sabrina! I'll be honest and say I didn't like The Giver that much, though the movie was better in my opinion

    1. Thank you :) I can definitely understand why some people wouldn't enjoy The Giver. It was very simple. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie though!

  5. Great answers! Incarnate is an interesting pick for music lovers. I have never thought of the book in that way. I LOVE that you have Seraphina on your list! I read it this year and it is now one of my favorite fantasy books. I cannot wait to get my hands on Shadow Scale.

    1. Thanks! I hadn't thought about it like that until I was searching for an answer to that category :) I really enjoyed Seraphina when I read it this year too - I'm glad you loved it! Me neither!

  6. I love gift guides :D
God, every time I'm on your blog I get the urge to start Incarnate. I really need to buy it.
Will! When I read the question, he's the first character I thought about.
I agree with you so, so much for question 4.
I'm a little scared for Insurgent. What I get from the trailer isn't like what I remember from the book... I really hope the movie won't make me feel that way, too.

    1. Yay :)
Haha, I talk about it a lot don't I? Actually, I talk about most of my favourites a lot.
Same for me :P He just fits the question perfectly!
      I'm glad you agree.
Yeah... I don't recall much of anything that happened in the trailer actually happening in the book. I'm going to be so disappointed if the movie does make me feel that way.

  7. Thanks so much for the tag Sabrina!
I did both of these and now I'm really in the Christmas spirit! :)
I'm not sure why I took off Please Ignore Vera Dietz from my to-read shelf but now I'm putting it back on because it sounds awesome! Dangerous Girls is the best freaking mystery thriller out there! I'm currently reading My True Love Gave To Me and finding it amazing though not all the stories are amazing. Which one was your favorite? Mine was Rainbow Rowell's (and I didn't even enjoy Fangirl). I'm really looking forward to reading Dash & Lily's Book of Dares but I'm thinking about not buying it until next Christmas and then it could be my getting to the Holiday spirit novel haha. For the last song I nearly choose A Monster Calls too but in the end I went with The Raven Boys even though I'm not sure it's for everyone. *shrugs* Whatever that's my list and no one can tell me what to do haha.

    1. No worries!
Awesome - I'll go check them out now.
I'm glad you've changed your mind! I really loved it.
I definitely agree - not all the stories are amazing. I think my favourite was It's a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown by Stephanie Perkins (and I didn't even enjoy Anna and the French Kiss that much) - I just found it adorable. And I liked how a lot of the stories, though they seemed "fluffy" at first glance, actually had serious issues in them. I loved Rainbow Rowell's too.
Sadly Dash and Lily's Book of Dares hasn't arrived from my library yet, so I'm considering putting it off until next year too - then I'll remember to get in really early. Then again, I might just read it anyway ahah.
I don't think a book exists that is for everyone aha. I mean, some people even dislike Harry Potter, which makes no sense to me ;)
