Let It Snow Review: Let It Stop

Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of today’s bestselling teen authors—John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.  Synopsis from Goodreads

Let It Snow features three short stories set on Christmas Eve, all in the same town on the night of a terrible snow storm.  As there were three stories by three different authors, I will review them separately.

This was the first of the stories, and it was by far my favourite.  The plot, characters and overall feeling were much better than the other two in my opinion.

I liked the main character, though she could be annoyingly stubborn at times.  She had a great sense of humour, which had me laughing at some points.  I also enjoyed the love interest.  The romance was definitely the cutest.

I loved how the plot had some unexpected things happen, so it wasn't too easy to predict what was going to happen (except with the direction of the romance).

At some points though, it did seem to drag on for me and got a little boring.

Sadly, John Green, whose novels I usually enjoy, had my least favourite story of the book.  If I'm being honest, I skim read the last half of the story.

I disliked all the characters.  Especially the main character.  Maybe if I'd seen the characters develop a little over the tale I would have liked it a bit better - but I didn't.

I also felt like I really didn't get to know the love interest well enough at all to make the romance enjoyable.  It was just boring.

I didn't even care for the storyline (three idiots friends off in the middle of a snow storm to find a group of cheerleaders at Starbucks in the hopes of... well, you know).  It also moved way too slow for me.

This story was another that I didn't really care for.  I did actually read the whole of this one properly though, so that's something.

As with the previous story, I didn't like any of the characters - especially the main character!  She was the most annoying person from the entire book (which did amuse me for the first few pages, but after that I couldn't stand it).  She was also extremely overdramatic and self centred.  The character development for her was a bit of a joke and could have been done so much better - if it had been, maybe I would have been able to forgive how annoying she was.

The plot wasn't so bad, but was pretty predictable.  Though I did enjoy the pig aspect.

This story had the benefit of tying all three tales together, and I love when that happens, so it gets extra points for that - even if it was a little cheesy!

So overall, this book gets 2 stars from me.  It's disappointing that it went downhill from the start.  Maybe it would make a good Christmas movie though!

Have you read this book?  Do you have any Christmas book recommendations for me (please)?

  1. Everybody went nuts when this came out but I never felt the need to pick it up and after this review I never will. I've seen quite a few negative ones around before too so my opinion on this one was never high. The only author I know is John Green and I cannot believe the plot is about THAT.... seriously.

    1. I noticed that too! Almost all my Goodreads friends loved this book, so it was especially sad for me not to like it. I'm glad that you've seen some negative reviews - it makes me feel less like the odd one out!
Yeah I was very disappointed in that plot!

  2. When I was in Vienna a few weeks ago I nearly bought this novel because it is SO SHINY. Thank god, I didn't because it sounds truly horrific, also I've read a couple of reviews of it this year and all were negative, so...
The novel sounds really good with everything connecting together, but other than that... meh. Especially, the John Green story! Like, what kind of Christmas story is that? lol Anyhow, I'm sad this one didn't work out for you, and so glad I didn't buy this.
    Amazing reviews! :)

    1. It is shiny! That must have made it all the more tempting. I'm sorry to make it sound horrific - but it was (overall) to me :(
Haha, the connectedness was the main reason I decided to read this (apart from the obvious Christmas theme), so I know what you mean!
I'm glad you didn't buy it and then see this review! I would have felt bad for putting you off lol.
      Thanks Veronika :) :)

  3. I have a copy of this on iBooks, so I decided to give it a try, especially because my Goodreads group decided to read it last month. I had such a hard time getting through the first three pages, so I put it away.
