October Wrap Up and November TBR

Happy November everyone!  I hope October was a great - and spooky - month for you and that you're looking forward to the month ahead.  October was pretty good for me, since it meant the end of my first year of uni (hooray!) and the start of my *cough* 5 month long holidays.  I also read some really good books!  And here they are!

1.  Uprooted by Naomi Novik (4 stars)
2.  Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella (DNF)
3.  The Heir by Kiera Cass (3 stars, review)
4.  Yes Please by Amy Poehler (4 stars)
5.  Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater (5 stars)
6.  Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor (4 stars, review)
7.  Cry Blue Murder by Kim Kane and Marion Roberts (3 stars, review)
8.  Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (4.5 stars)

I mostly read Uprooted last month, but it took me a little while to get through.  There was so much about it that I really, really loved, but the romance just didn't work for me.  My favourite things about it were how much actually happened over the course of the novel and the writing style.

I decided to put down Finding Audrey because of a few reasons.  I think it was aimed at an audience a bit younger than me which doesn't usually put me off, but somehow did this time; the mother was super irritating and it might have just been the wrong time for me to read it.

I loved reading Yes Please - it was my first autobiography/memoir and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.  Obviously some chapters resonated with me better than others, though.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue is a new favourite of mine.  It's the first Raven Cycle book that I have given five stars, but I feel that if I was to go back and reread the first two now they would be 5-star favourites too because I love and appreciate the characters so much more now.

As for Illuminae, I will have my review up sometime this week I hope.

1.  Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff
2.  Sweet Damage by Rebecca James
3.  The Krakow Klub by Philip C. Elrod
4.  The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle
5.  Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
6.  Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

I am currently reading the first three books I mentioned, and The Accident Season is ready for me at the library, I just have to go pick it up.  I'm hopefully going to a Sarah J. Maas event this month (yay!) so obviously I have to finish all her books before then.  Hopefully I will finish all these this month, but I may have to give up on Stormdancer because it's taking me too long and needs to go back to the library :(

What was your favourite book this month?  Did you get up to anything exciting?

  1. I also read (and loved) Blue Lily Lily Blue this month and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. It wasn't my favorite in the series so far (that title goes to the second book), but it definitely has me excited for the last book. I'm also really interested in The Accident Season and might have to order it at some point. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that. Happy November! :)

    1. Yay for The Raven Cycle! Can't wait for the last book either :)
The Accident Season does sound very interesting, and I have heard some really good reviews, so I'm hoping it'll be great.
Aha Happy November to you too!

  2. I need to read Uprooted and Blue Lily Lily Blue. But I will wait to read the latter since I don't want to wait a long time until The Raven King comes out, and I wanna read Uprooted before the year ends but I'm skeptical about it. I've heard amazing things and also terrible things. A lot seem to think the same way you do about the romance but I've also heard people saying the pacing was too much, so relentless. I'll have to see for myself.
I think I will not continue with the Throne of Glass series; I wasn't really impressed with the first two books and although I own the bind up of the novellas I will read it but that's about it. I don't see myself reading Heir of Fire which is a shame because I wanted to love this series as much as everyone else.
    Happy Reading in November! :)

    1. I think waiting to read BL,LB is probably a good idea! I've been losing sleep over The Raven King, I can tell you that much.
I'm sorry to hear that you've heard terrible things about Uprooted! I can definitely see why people thought the pacing was relentless - I guess I'm just lucky that I enjoyed that! I hope you get to pick it up soon.
I think if you're not impressed by not one, but two books in a series, it's probably time to give up haha.
      You too Noelia!

  3. I can't wait to read Uprooted, but I really hope I'll be able to enjoy the romance part of it, as well. I'm really glad Raven Cycle has finally become a 5-star series for you! At this point I'm so attached to the characters that I'll probably cry through the whole last book because I'll miss them so much lol. Ooh, and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Illuminae! That's one book I'll definitely get for my birthday, which is "only" 19 days away - hopefully, I'll actually read it and not let it sit around unread.
I'm so glad you're planning on reading Sweet Damage this month, and I hope you'll enjoy it.
    Happy reading!

    1. I hope you get to read it soon and that you enjoy it just as much, or more than, I did!
I'm super happy to be completely loving the Raven Cycle now too. I feel exactly the same way about the last book! The characters feel like my adopted children by now.
Ooooh I'm glad to hear you are getting Illuminae! Also Happy Early Birthday!
Hehe thanks to your review! I'm liking it so far.
