2015 Bookish and Blogging Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Yes, I realise I am seven or eight days late, depending on your time zone.  As mentioned in my last post, I went on a little family holiday with minimal access to internet, so I haven't been updating for the last... well, while.

Since it's my first post of the year, I've decided to share with you some of my goals for 2015.  I've tried to keep them related to books and blogging, but some cross over into my "outside" life too.  They're all things that I can realistically accomplish this year, and are all under my control.

So, without further ado:  My new year's resolutions!

1.  Finish all my owned, unread books.
These include: Siege and Storm + Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo, A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray, The Iron Trial by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black, The Bane Chronicles, Attachments by Rainbow Rowell, Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas, Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes and Infinite by Jodi Meadows.

2.  Read these other specific books.

These are books I have had on my TBR radar for a long time that I really want to read.

3.  Read at least 2 classics this year.
I want to understand what's going on when people talk about them.

4.  Read some adult fiction.
I'm thinking at least five.  For example: Attachments by Rainbow Rowell, Vicious by V.E. Schwab, and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

5.  Stop saying the word "really" so often.
I'm aware that this is an issue for me.  "Very" is another word that I use too much.  I need to work on using better descriptive words than "excited" and "good" and stop thinking that slapping a "really" or a "very" in front of them changes their meaning more than slightly.

6.  Read at least 52 books - an average of one a week.
I've set my Goodreads challenge at 45 only because it doesn't include rereads and I know I like to do that and am planning to do that this year.

7.  Try and reread at least one of my favourite series/trilogies.
For example:

8.  Try to write some more long reviews.
I know I do more mini reviews of books than longer reviews.  I like to believe it's not because I'm lazy, just that I didn't have as much to say, but I think - deep down - I know the truth!

9.  Don't neglect reading in favour of watching Youtube.
I'm so guilty of this!  Sometimes I'll watch a tonne of booktube videos and not read a single chapter in a day.

10.  No buying books unless I've got an income!
Okay, so I might scratch this one later in the year depending on "life", but we'll see how I go.

11.  Finish/Continue some series that you've started.
It's confusing me as to why I haven't finished some of these.  For example, I gave Paranormalcy 5 stars, yet I never moved on to the next book.

12.  Reread your posts before you post them.
The amount of times I've had to go back and edit a post after already having posted in is a little ridiculous.  I've always hated going back over my work and editing it, but I have to get used to it!  The saddest part of this is that I've only added this point after almost publishing this very post with some of my notes still in it.

13.  Post more of what I want, rather than what I think people will like.
I do this thing a lot, where I get worried about posting two tags in a row or two reviews in a row, because I think people will get annoyed.  It shouldn't bother me so much and it's even likely that no one notices.

~~~
On top of these I also have plans to fix up my blogging schedule, but as I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen in my life this year, I have no specific goals quite yet.  I'd also like to revisit this list in 6 months and see how I'm going.
Thanks for reading and I'll have some more posts up soon!
  1. Great goals! I do wanna read more adult fiction as well. Of the ones you've mentioned I've only read Gone Girl like 3 years ago and LOVED it! Even though I guessed some of the twists what I enjoyed most about the story were the characters, so unlikeable! I'm weird LOL
    I also wanna read Splinter and Cinder. I've had those books for a long time now and it has to happen, especially the first one because the last book comes out this month and since the trilogy is gonna be complete I can marathon them hehehe
    1. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Gone Girl! Unlikeable characters are great for a change, so I can see where you're coming from lol.
      Yeah! I mostly want to read it this year because of the last book coming out. Also, a lot of people I trust really like it.
  2. I need to do a few of these too. Finish series, read the unread books on my bookshelf (that's my goal every year. Never been able to do it. I always bring MORE in!), I also want to reread the Harry Potter series, I do need to read my posts before typing (I come across way too many typos when it's already published!), and I also really should stop buying so many books. I bought over 300 books last year and that's pretty scary!
    I also have a problem with using the same words in reviews. Interesting, definitely, unique, and amazing are some of my most common offenders.
    Anyway, good luck!
    1. Finishing series and the unread books on my shelf are probably my priorities. I'm sorry that you've never been able to finish all your books - but I understand that when you keep getting more books it's hard to do.
      Wow! 300 books! That's so cool!
      I struggle with using definitely a lot too.
      Thanks! I'm glad to see someone shares some of my goals :)
  3. Fantastic goals, I'm really rooting for you to be able to accomplish them! :)
    The Lunar Chronicles are AMAZING! I only started the series in 2014 and I was so angry at myself for putting those wonderful books aside for so long. I've seen Splintered around the blogosphere but I never actually read the blurb until now and OMG it sounds soo great.
    I'm planning on reading more Adult fiction and classics too. The classics we read in school are usually horrible to me, so I'm really "afraid" of them, even though the ones I read because I actually wanted to read them were fantastic.
    I want to reread the Hunger Games trilogy before the last movie comes out and then watch all the films and just then go to the theaters. You know, to see the whole thing together.
    1. Thanks Veronika!
      Eeee I really need to read them then! I think it may be the sci-fi elements that have been putting me off. Splintered does sound cool!
      I agree with you - classics read in school are usually awful. I'm a little afraid of them too, not just because of this, but because some of them are really long and take ages to read.
      I never even thought to do that! What a great idea!
  4. Oh Cinder is so good I really recommend that one. The books in the series just keep getting better and better.I have the opposite problem with my reviews, mine are always far too long. I tend to go off on either a rant or a rave haha
    1. So I have heard! I hope I like it.
      You're lucky that you can write so much. Rants and raves are the most fun to read :)
